                        Welcome to English!

What is going on in English?

Grade 6: The sixth grade is working on descriptive writing. Using many adjectives to describe sights, sounds, smells, feelings, and tastes has been an excellent way to get classmates to experience the same sensations that you are describing. We will be writing a descriptive paragraph for each of the five senses, then a descriptive short essay before beginning our next novel.

Grade 7: The seventh grade is exploring historical fiction. They are reading both Shadow Spinner and For Freedom as inspiration for a project we will be doing with the Fairfield History Center later this month. The seventh grade will be creating their own historical fiction using inspiration from real-life members of the Fairfield community centuries ago.

Grade 8: The eighth grade has finished reading George Orwell's Animal Farm and is now writing an interesting essay which analyzes the book. Following the essay, the eighth grade will read two books relating to the Civil War; one is fiction and one is non-fiction. The Last Silk Dress and The Boys' War will prove to be enjoyable, and they will give the eighth grade a deeper insight into the Civil War.
